Ally · Leader of the Manumit Rebellion

Marat / Crake

Marat, known through much of the game as Crake, leads the Manumit rebellion against Brencis. Coen can earn this guarded human leader's trust, pursue an optional romance, or use the rebel route to reshape Vale Sangora's ending.

Overview

Marat and Crake are two names for one character, so this profile keeps their story on a single canonical page. Bandai Namco introduces him as Marat, while launch quests and guides commonly use Crake; current evidence identifies Marat as his birth name without fully establishing how the Crake name began.

He leads the human rebellion against Brencis and the vrakhiri court. Courage and charisma have earned the loyalty of his followers, but past betrayal makes him deeply suspicious of outsiders. Coen must prove his value before political cooperation can become personal trust.

Story & The Manumit Rebellion

Marat's public role is that of a resistance leader who can turn scattered opposition into an organized challenge to the vrakhiri. Coen reaches the Manumit network through contacts such as Mert and Sara, then faces a tense introduction in which the rebels must decide whether a Dawnwalker is a weapon, a threat, or a potential ally.

The connected quest chain moves from recruitment and surveillance into questions of loyalty, hidden history, and the cost of rebellion. Later quests reveal more of Marat's identity and his connection to Ascar. Completing the core route gives the Manumits a meaningful place in the assault on Brencis rather than leaving them as background resistance.

Leadership & Field Strengths

Marat is not defined by supernatural powers. His strengths are organization, nerve, and the ability to inspire people who have survived occupation and betrayal. He reads new arrivals cautiously, protects the location of the Manumit hideout, and expects commitment before sharing the rebellion's most valuable information.

For the player, his most important ability is strategic rather than mechanical: cooperation opens rebel contacts, additional operations, and a supported route toward Greifberg Castle. Betraying the hideout to Brencis reverses that value and turns information earned through trust into a weapon against the Manumits.

Trust, Romance & Ending Route

Coen and Marat begin from mutual uncertainty. Their relationship develops through completed Manumit work, conversations after dangerous missions, and the personal disclosures surrounding Distant Shadows and A Closer Look. The optional romance becomes available only after that political relationship has gained a credible foundation.

Choosing the romantic response during A Closer Look can lead to an intimate scene, but the Manumit route remains important even without romance. Finishing the rebellion arc allows Coen to face Brencis with Crake and the Manumits and opens the Knyazmaker ending path. Alternative choices can instead expose the rebels, break the alliance, or leave Marat outside the final plan.
